Event Organiser
If you are organising a training or competitive event consider the following steps.
You will need to make your map and course files available to runners.
Create a KMZ version of your map. (See FAQ for more details).
Export your course in XML format. (See FAQ for more details).
Either save these files:
- On Google Drive in a folder you share
- On a webserver where you have access to save the files - (Currently this is the MyOMaps server - but in future could be your local Orienteering Club website)
Alternatively you could email the files to the runners and they could save them directly on their Android device. To do this the user opens the email on the Android and saves the attachments. These will be stored in "Downloads". Then ensure the location of files is set to the local device and the files will be available in the Downloads folder.
Let your runners know where they can access the files. Runners will also generally need to use a printed map rather than run just using the map display on the device, however, carrying the Android in a case on your forearm is a practical way of running without a printed map. Remember that the map can be rotated on the screen using the "two finger rotate" action.

Runners then could either use the map and courses in:
- A competitive mode, using the Home Screen to select the map, course and scatter/course setting. - In this mode, upon finishing, the competitors' can create a results file that records their splits (as well as the track file recording their track. If the organiser wants results and GPS tracks to be automatically published on RouteGadget - a matching event needs to be setup in advance to receive the results. Email the support email address if you would like more information on this feature. |
