Orienteer - Training
There is a range of options for orienteering training.
Set your own Course
If you have access to a OCAD or Corpse you can set your own course and run it (without placing out controls).
Map: You will need a geo-referenced base map. This will typically be created in OCAD v10 or v11 from which you need a .KMZ version of the file.
You can set your course in OCAD8, 9 or later versions or other systems such as Corpse using a non-geo-referenced version of the file. Export you course(s) in IOF XML format.
If you only have access to OCAD 8, 9 or Corpse (These do not have the capability to geo-reference a map), you can take a .jpg version of the map file and geo-reference it using MyOMaps. This process is not as precise as the result you will get from OCAD, but it may be good enough for your purposes.
Run a Set Course
If you have a geo-referenced Orienteering Map and Course File, save these where they can be accessed by MyOMaps:
- locally on your Android device
- on a website (such as your Orienteering Club website)
- on your Google Drive (Android only)
Print a copy of the map with the course.
From the Home Screen in MyOMaps, select the map, the course, and scatter/course mode.
Press Start
As you approach the start press Start and the timer will start when you goto the Start Triangle and stop when you get to the Finish.
Your track is saved and you can display and save your splits into an OE Results file.
